The future of Fashion

It has come to the point to wrap up all the forecast I have done for the last few months and leave you guys with my final blog. This last blog will sum up everything I've been talking about and bring me to my conclusion of a sales forecast. Sit back and relax while I take you on the journey through Oscar De La Renta's design house!

From the beginning Oscar De La Renta started working under a designer named Jane Derby in 1965. Her line was called Jane Derby inc. It was located in New York City. When she passed away he took over the company and gave it his own name. First calling it Oscar De La Renta for Jane Derby but soon after changed it to just Oscar De La Renta. He kept with the true essence of Jane and still designed elegant pieces for women who displayed femininity.
With in the coming years after taking over Oscar made a name for him self quickly and became a luxury collection. He had Jeffry Aronsson as his CEO in his business ventures but soon found himself looking for a new CEO after Jeffry jumped ship to be apart of LVMH. He brought aboard his step daughter and her husband, Eliza and Alex Bolen to take over the CEO position. With Alex being a 14 year veteran of Wall Street he put his expertise into the company. They have expanded their business globally to Athens and Madrid and then in Dubai .

In the Spring 2013 rtw collection you can see a change in the way Oscar usually do things. The theme of the collection was all over the place and the color theme too. His once elegant and sophisticated garments are now different and funky. Not his usual cup of tea. Oscar and his team took a gamble on this collection to see if people would respond well to it or if they had to start back at square one and try things again.

For the future sales of Oscar De La Renta I feel his sales will increase. It seems that they are on a path on innovation and have an idea of something new. They might have missed on this collection but I feel by the year 2017 the collection will be more developed and put together. They will have a new target market that is a younger woman. They want to keep the creativity of Oscar De La Renta but invent new designs for the new era of women. He designed for women like Oprah Winfrey but in 2017 they will be concentrated on a younger woman for example rihanna.

Can you feel it?

Many designers look for many influences for texture in places such as nature, art, home furnishings, lighting, glass, and everyday objects. Texture is very important because we are constantly touching objects every single day. You can feel color or patterns but you can feel textures. Even if someone didn't have hands you could run the object or garment across their face, arm, leg etc and they will be able to feel the texture. In Oscar De La Renta's rtw 2013 spring collection you can see some of his garments that have elegant texture that just catch every ones eyes.

In this garment the skirt is fabricated with feather like texture. It resembles the body of a feather duster. They both have a soft touch to them. The garment is a beautiful interpretation of the ordinary feather duster.

Who could ever forget the doily? Everyone has that one relative who cant let them go. Maybe Oscar is that relative. He tries to turn the original doily into a beautiful garment piece. Doilies are typically woven giving it that gritty rough texture to it. If you pass your had along the design you can feel every intricate piece of the design. In his garment, the texture has a more lace feel to it than the original feel doilie's give off.

Street fashion

The Runways are where people look at for what is fashion but the real runway is the concrete. The people of the street are the ones who wear the clothes and wear the trends. This is where designers and people of the industry see fashion come alive. With street wear it gives individuals a chance to make their look their own. I traveled around providence and Boston to venture out and see what the real trendsetters were wearing. As i captured the photos i come to the realization that people were no longer wearing straight colors like a solid top and simple blue jeans Oh No! The style was creative and different, the style was PATTERNS AND PRINTS. Everywhere you looked there were patterns being worn.

The people of the street are wearing patterns anywhere from their jacket (photo1) to their pants (photos3&4) to their shirts(photo2) and to their sleeves(photo6).

In photo 1 this woman has layered her black cami with a patterned jacket that pops with the contrast of black. Everything else on her is simple but with the colors and patterns from the jacket it brings her outfit to life. In photo 2 I captured a young man whose shirt that caught my attention immediately. It had a Moroccan type feel to it. The pattern was continuous through out the whole shirt making it a pleasant sight to see. In Photo 3 this outfit was different. I found the pants rolled up to his ankle to be a statement that made the outfit his.The pattern looked like a twist on the traditional camouflage pants.
The pants in photo 4 I love the intricate design. The white on black contrast always makes designs pop. Again the white and black colors in the shirt in photo 5 blend well together especially with the zigzag pattern in the shirt. Graphic tees like that are seen everyday on the concrete runway. Photo 5 is my absolute favorite. It goes to show people have their own fashion and make their own trends on the street. The guy on the right had a black button up shirt with Floral print sleeves. Just like their hates say, on the streets this ensemble is DOPE.

Patterns have and always will be a big part of fashion. In Oscar De la Renta's rtw spring collection you can see some patterns and prints displayed on his garments. I think he captured the essence of simple and complex patterns and prints his his collection. The pieces you see in his collection you can see a little resemblance in thr garments from the street wear. for example if you take a look at photo 5 the pattern resembles the one in photo A. In photo A it has a simple V line design close to a zigzag pattern. With the floral print in photo 6, you can say Oscar took inspiration from that and came out with photo B but took the traditional floral print and turned it into a well put garment. I feel as Oscar De la Renta took the street trend of patterns and prints and made them more elegant and precise to interpret his look on fashion.

follow the rainbow

With Oscar De La Renta'sspring 2013 ready to wear collection you can say he took the colors back to his roots. He used fun colors that come from his home land of Dominican Replublic. The vibrant colors just pop right off the garments in his collection. With that being said he does have some basic color pieces that are the opposite of the fun color popping pieces. The colors in his collection varied. Some of the main colors were Freesia, cabaret and aqua green. The more neutral colors are bright white, smoke and jet black.

With those colors being the dominate ones in the collection I feel there could have been more bright colors that could have made Oscar's line more extravagant. With some of his colors going back to his caribbean roots i chose these colors to add to his line. I thought these colors were fun and eye catching as if you was in the caribbean. These colors would go well with the theme of color. In his line he has neutrals all the way to freesia. My new color story consist of (from left to right) Limeade, sun orange, tropical green, caribbean sea and passion flower.

Looking forward, I predict that next seasons color story will consist of similar colors that you see now. He has a history of recycling the same colors. He will stay true to the fun, vibrant colors that you would see in the caribbeans. Colors that are almost like a breath of fresh air and instantly make you smile. There will also be the basic neutrals like the jet black and smoke color that reoccur in his collections seasonally. Oscar De La Renta never disappoints.

what inspires you!

As Oscar De La Renta showed his 2012 spring rtw wear line at this years fashion week in New York, one would say his pieces were.....UNIQUE to say the least. As we all know designers as well as any one in the world look out and seek inspiration for ideas.

In this photo you can get a feel of a historical inspiration from Mr.Oscar. The two photos on the left show Moroccan tiles with historical and traditional Moroccan prints on them. Then with the attention shifting to the photo on the right with Oscar De La Rentas' dress that he displayed in his line the intricate details resemble the ones in the tiles. Can we say his inspiration? I think so.

In this runway piece there were little images that are little hard to make out until you get a little closer to the garment. They turn out to look like the significant Japanese flowers. These flowers are a cultural symbol in japan. Maybe Oscar has done some traveling recently and spotted his eyes on these beautiful flowers and said to himself they had to be in his design. The details in the dress match the ones in the photo directly under it.

Did someone Jingle the bell? No its just the bells that went off in Oscars head when he got inspiration from the classic crystal hand bell. When you think of these bells you think of a wealthy person jingling the bell to get their maids attention. It could be possible that he was getting his maids attention (if he even has them, we'll just pretend like he does so my story can make sense), looked down and said "hmm this shape is magnificent! Its my inspiration for my new dress". Shown in the photo on the right the bottom of the dress takes on the shape of the photo in the left. Even in the dress it appears to have some type material that has a reflection as the lights bounce off of it just like crystal does.

Cant you just feel the spring sensation? I know I can. With this top the print and surface decoration just POP literally. It looks like the top piece is a bed of pink flowers that the designer picked out the garden and sewed together. It its beautiful just like the Photo directly under it. Who doesn't love flowers. As you can see Oscar does because he let the flowers inspire him to form the piece in his rtw line for spring 2013.

oscar de la renta

Recently at New fashion week Oscar de la renta showed his ready to wear 2013 spring collection. It was somewhat a refreshing new look for oscar but some pieces were a little questionable. Starting off with the models in the runway show, they all had hair dos that resembled beehives with color strips of pink, blue and red, No No! but who am I to tell Oscar what to do. Now on to the clothes. his first few pieces had more of a business look to them. They had a modern twist on them with the latex form top and skirt.Theres a traditional ivory linen pantsuit with a blazer and slacks. Now here comes the fun pieces. A walking doily!(picture 1) Not a very well concept for a piece that your trying to sell to buyers in MY OPINION. His next set goes in to a playful patterned skirts and dresses that resemble a school girls uniform or even a teacher. Im not a huge fan of pink but the way oscar executed this piece makes me love it. Theres a balance with the lace top and the solid colored skirt. (picture 2) As the show goes on the pieces get more questionable. I feel with this piece he just took a doily got bored, took a sharpie marker and drew all over it and called it fashion. (picture 3)As the more pieces are shown it becomes more modern looks with fun spring colors. Which brings me to another wonderful creation tha i would like to call the modern day christmas tree. makes you tilt your head and say hmm..(picture 4) The little dangling ornaments or whatever you want to call them are a "unique" way to look at fashion in Oscars eyes im guessing because this wasnt the only piece that displaye these new accessories. Oscar de la rentas new collection for spring  2013 was unique in its own way. Not all the pieces were outstanding but they were all unique in their own way and thats what Oscar was going for. You can say some of his pieces were inspired but different decades, You can see the 70's, the 20's and even somewhat of the 1800's.
